Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Bolo!, a language-learning app that helps you learn to speak Central and Eastern European languages out loud. They apply to both the Bolo! website and the Bolo! mobile app. By using Bolo!, you agree to them.

Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 13 years old to use Bolo!. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the app with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. Authentication is handled by our identity provider, Clerk.
Please provide accurate information when you sign up and keep it current.

Acceptable use

When you use Bolo!, you agree not to:

Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms or any applicable law.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app, other users' accounts, or our systems and networks.
Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or interfere with the operation, security, or integrity of the app.
Upload or transmit content that is abusive, harassing, infringing, or that you do not have the right to share, including through the microphone recording features.
Misuse the social features (such as friends and leaderboards) to harass or impersonate others, or to send unsolicited or automated requests.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that harm the service or other users.

Subscriptions and billing

Bolo! offers a free tier and a paid subscription ("All-Access") that unlocks additional features. The following terms apply to paid subscriptions:

Billing. All-Access is billed in advance on a recurring basis (for example, monthly or annually) at the price shown at the time of purchase, plus any applicable taxes.
Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time.
Managing your subscription. Where you purchased All-Access determines how you manage or cancel it. Web purchases are managed through the app's billing settings; purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are managed through your Apple or Google account subscription settings.
Cancellation. When you cancel, you keep All-Access through the end of the current billing period, and it does not renew after that. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods except where required by law.
App store terms. If you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that platform's payment, refund, and subscription terms also apply and may govern cancellations and refunds.
Price changes. We may change subscription prices going forward. We will give you reasonable notice, and changes will not affect the period you have already paid for.

Your content and license

You keep ownership of what you create, including your voice recordings. You grant us a limited license to process that content only to provide the service, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Intellectual property

Bolo!, its lessons, artwork, mascot, and software are owned by LARK Enterprises LLC and protected by intellectual property law. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks or content outside of using the app normally.

Disclaimers

Bolo! is provided "as is" and "as available". Language learning results vary from person to person, and we do not guarantee any particular level of fluency. Pronunciation scoring is automated and imperfect, and should be treated as guidance rather than assessment.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LARK Enterprises LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Bolo!.

Termination

You may stop using Bolo! and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the service.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
